The K-beauty price gap holds at every rung of the ladder
Korean-origin beauty brands sell into the United States below their US-origin peers by roughly the same margin at every price point rather than only at the top or the bottom: $16.99 against $24 at the cheap quarter, $22 against $31 at the middle, $32.80 against $42 at the expensive quarter, gaps of 29%, 29%, 22% across 19 Korean-origin and 18 US-origin storefronts.
There is no rung to climb into. A Korean brand that prices up leaves the position its whole ladder occupies and lands where US brands already are.

A repeat run finds the gap reversing at any rung, or finds the smallest rung gap less than half the largest.

orbt: Market Register commerce collector, run commerce-20260805140548
Median of storefront quantiles, each computed over every priced variant in that storefront’s feed. This measurement is what retired omr:kr-us:the-korean-price-gap-sits-in-the-tails, whose falsifier asked whether the quartile bands were more than 15% apart. They are 29% apart at the lower quartile and 22% at the upper, so the earlier reading of an overlapping working range does not hold. Retailers are excluded from both origin groups: OLIVE YOUNG Global, Peach & Lily, Soko Glam, Stylevana. Their catalogues are other companies’ product copy, so counting them by the storefront’s own origin would put Korean listings inside the US-origin group. Run commerce-20260805140548.

History
- v4corrected
Re-derived from collector run commerce-20260805140548 after a change to the instrument: added the product page as a readable surface: the same page the collector already fetched for its JSON-LD, now read for the ingredient list, the drug label, the directions and the claim words a shopper actually sees. The figures moved for that reason. Any part of the change attributable to the market moving cannot be separated from it in this revision, and the previous statement is recorded below rather than replaced.
What it said before
Korean-origin beauty brands sell into the United States below their US-origin peers by roughly the same margin at every price point rather than only at the top or the bottom: $16.50 against $24 at the cheap quarter, $22 against $31 at the middle, $32.80 against $42 at the expensive quarter, gaps of 31%, 29%, 22% across 19 Korean-origin and 18 US-origin storefronts.
- v3corrected
Correction. The retirement recorded above was an operator error, not a finding. The derivation was run against collector run commerce-20260805053004 while that crawl was still in flight and had reached 4 of 66 storefronts, so every claim whose storefronts it had not yet read failed its sample gate and was retired. 44 claims were retired in one command for that reason. The claim was re-derived the same day from collector run commerce-20260805051110, a complete 66 of 66 crawl, and holds. Nothing about the market changed between the two records. The retirement stays in this log because the log is not edited; this entry is what it means. The instrument now refuses to derive from a run missing more than a tenth of the seeded storefronts, and a claim returning from retired now files its own status revision, which is why this correction had to be written by hand rather than appearing on its own.
- v2retired
Retired against collector run commerce-20260805053004: sample too thin (KR 2, US 0; need 8 each). The claim held on the sample available when it was written and does not hold on this one.
