5 in 15 Korean storefronts sell under Korean law
Some Korean-origin brands selling to American shoppers put the sale under Korean law rather than US law: 5 of the 15 that name a governing law name South Korea or the Republic of Korea, while 0 of 6 US-origin storefronts name any law outside the United States.
A US buyer on those storefronts has a contract governed abroad, and a US brand benchmarking a Korean competitor’s terms is reading a document written for a different legal system.

The site is operated in South Korea and governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea,
Quoted verbatim from AXIS-Y. Named jurisdictions across the Korean-origin group: AXIS-Y (Republic of Korea); Anua (California); Beauty of Joseon (United States); COSRX (Republic of Korea); Haruharu Wonder (South Korea); Laneige US (New York); Medicube (California); Mixsoon (New York); Nature Republic US (Los Angeles California US); Rovectin (United States); SKIN1004 (South Korea); Sulwhasoo US (New York); TIRTIR (United States); Torriden (South Korea); innisfree US (New York). 3 of the 5 serve a terms document that other storefronts here also serve, so this reads as a template’s country field completed from the seller’s own address rather than a considered choice of law. A clause naming a jurisdiction is not the same as that clause being enforceable against a US consumer, which is a lawyer’s question and not one this measures. Read on Shopify storefronts only, on the path Shopify guarantees; 38 brand storefronts qualify. 5 served no readable terms page and are excluded rather than counted as silent: Dear, Klairs / Necessaire / Rhode / Summer Fridays / Topicals. 2 serve a pointer to another page and are also excluded: Farmacy / Naturium. Run commerce-20260805140548.

History
- v3corrected
Correction. The retirement recorded above was an operator error, not a finding. The derivation was run against collector run commerce-20260805053004 while that crawl was still in flight and had reached 4 of 66 storefronts, so every claim whose storefronts it had not yet read failed its sample gate and was retired. 44 claims were retired in one command for that reason. The claim was re-derived the same day from collector run commerce-20260805051110, a complete 66 of 66 crawl, and holds. Nothing about the market changed between the two records. The retirement stays in this log because the log is not edited; this entry is what it means. The instrument now refuses to derive from a run missing more than a tenth of the seeded storefronts, and a claim returning from retired now files its own status revision, which is why this correction had to be written by hand rather than appearing on its own.
- v2retired
Retired against collector run commerce-20260805053004: only 2 Korean-origin storefronts name a governing law, need 8. The claim held on the sample available when it was written and does not hold on this one.
