Discount posture is set per market, not per brand

Whether a Korean beauty brand prices against a struck-through anchor is decided per storefront, not carried across the border: of 8 brands read on both sides, 6 changed their anchored share by at least 25 points, a median 51 points, and they moved both ways, 4 anchoring more in the US than at home and 2 anchoring more at home.

There is no Korean discount norm to inherit or to correct for, so a US pricing posture has to be argued from the US shelf, and a competitor’s Korean site tells you nothing about how it will price against you here.

Structure

Held since August 5, 2026How the market is physically or commercially arranged. The earliest date we are willing to say this held. It may well have been true before that; we do not backdate a record past the evidence we have read. Supported, version 3.

This entry is wrong if

A repeat run finds fewer than two paired brands moving at least 25 points in each direction, or finds anchor shares clustered within either platform, which would put the movement down to the software rather than the decision.

Written before the record was published, not after. If you can show this, send it to hello@tryorbt.com and the correction goes on the record with the entry.

Evidence

  1. Tier Bobserved-webn = 8

orbt: Market Register commerce collector, run commerce-20260805140548

Struck-through prices read from the product tile, 소비자가 on Cafe24 and compare_at_price on Shopify, for the same brand on both storefronts. Anchor share runs 0% to 98% across the Cafe24 storefronts and 0% to 98% across the Shopify ones, so neither platform is setting the number. 2 of 10 pairs excluded as running promotions. Paired brands: COSRX / Beauty of Joseon / Mixsoon / TOCOBO / AXIS-Y / Dear, Klairs / Anua / Sulwhasoo. Run commerce-20260805140548.

History

  1. v3corrected

Correction. The retirement recorded above was an operator error, not a finding. The derivation was run against collector run commerce-20260805053004 while that crawl was still in flight and had reached 4 of 66 storefronts, so every claim whose storefronts it had not yet read failed its sample gate and was retired. 44 claims were retired in one command for that reason. The claim was re-derived the same day from collector run commerce-20260805051110, a complete 66 of 66 crawl, and holds. Nothing about the market changed between the two records. The retirement stays in this log because the log is not edited; this entry is what it means. The instrument now refuses to derive from a run missing more than a tenth of the seeded storefronts, and a claim returning from retired now files its own status revision, which is why this correction had to be written by hand rather than appearing on its own.

  2. v2retired

Retired against collector run commerce-20260805053004: only 0 brands with anchor data on both sides, need 6. The claim held on the sample available when it was written and does not hold on this one.
